F0 contours for 573 recordings with different rises and falls. Recordings are my own from my research on rising intonation. R with postprocessing in illustrator.

Log Rings

Log Rings

Average log-transformed duration differentials at the word, syllable, onset, rime, nucleus, and coda level for five intonational tunes compared to H*L-L% as a baseline. Aggregated by metrical structure. Recordings are my own from my research on RFR intonation. R and illustrator.

MI Rates, Hard Light

MI Rates, Hard Light

Probability of a Yes response to questions that probe what I refer to as the 'merely inference.' That is, the response to questions like 'Would you conclude that it is not merely warm?' As with my SI rate piece, 64 lexical scales are shown here. Upright triangles show RFR tunes (high boundary tone) and upside down triangles show falling tunes (low boundary tone). Proportion for each tune determines the amount of fill for a given color. Blue, red, and gray were used with hard light blending. Data taken from my research on RFR and SI. R.

Prague

Prague, Czech Republic (2023). From under an archway.

SI Rates, Darken

SI Rates, Darken

Probability of scalar implicature calculation for 64 lexical scales. Upright triangles show RFR tunes (high boundary tone) and upside down triangles show falling tunes (low boundary tone). Proportion for each tune determines the amount of fill for a given color. Cyan, magenta, and yellow were used with a darken color blend mode to mimic printer ink. Data taken from my research on RFR and SI. R.

Sleep

Sleep

F0 contours for 3280 recordings with six different intonational patterns. Colored by pitch accent with multiply blend mode for the overlap. Recordings are my own from my research on RFR intonation. R with postprocessing in illustrator.

Visage

Visage

Side profile doodles over a year or so. Ballpoint pen on notebook paper. Collage made digitally after scanning.

Waves

Waves

F0 contours for 3280 recordings with six different intonational patterns, divided by metrical structure. Arranged by marginal counts. Recordings are my own from my research on RFR intonation. R with postprocessing in illustrator.
